How Can I Pay My Rent?
What is rent? Rent is the charge made for your home. It is payable on a weekly basis. As well as your rent, you may be charged for the services you receive. This is called the service charge. Any payments you are responsible for will show on your rent statement. Your rent has nothing to do with Council Tax which is charged separately by the Council and pays for things like the fire and Police services. Why should I pay my rent?
Your rent is the main source of income for Broxbourne Housing Association (BHA). This is the money we use to pay for improvements to your home, repairs and management services. If you do not pay your rent we will have less to spend on your home and services. Other charges
Other charges include leasehold service charges and ground rent, rechargeable repairs, taskforce charges, caretaking and maintenance. What happens if I dont pay my rent and other charges?
If you are having difficulty paying your rent or any other charges you should contact us. We will work with you to try and find a way for the arrears to be cleared over a mutually agreed time. As a responsible social landlord BHA has adopted a firm, but fair policy towards tenants in arrears. We will try to help, but if you ignore an agreement to pay off arrears without any good reason or if you refuse to make an agreement then we can take court action which could mean your home would be at risk. You may also be liable for any costs incurred by BHA and could have a County Court Judgement awarded against you which could count against your future credit worthiness. If your account is in arrears please contact your Income Recovery Officer on 0800 107 0713 (freephone) because we may be able to help you. If you are experiencing difficulties in paying your rent you may be entitled to Housing Benefit. To discuss this you should contact Broxbourne Council on 01992 785555.
